I'd like to thank G.V.J. for all this fantastic work, postings and interviews, footage, space, love, and criticism he has done for all of us!!!

I thank you George from the bottom of my heart, just remember there are some folks that want to do more to help you, but just need to find the time. I'm sure that with all these networks up and running no one wants you to fold or throw them off, especially now in the time of peace, giving and a new chance to get better as we all move on in life.

But I inderstand all the frustration and disappointment because you are not alone with that either! My faith and guidance is from a Higher Power and I fight each day to stay positive, up and motivated, but we need a real community and it takes a group consciousness to make this happen. I wish us all the very best and the wisdom and knowledge to support each other verbally as amuch as possible, it can save our lifes!

Peace & Love,

A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Photobucket

The WDCJN supports the AAJC Motto
"WORKING TOGETHER WORKS"

First I'd like send a special thanks to all who have contributed. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

We need a domino effect from all members of the Washington DC Jazz Network. Ten dollars is not a lot, but people have got to want to do it. What would cause or motivate YOU to donate online?

Photobucket

The Washington DC Jazz Network was created to inspire and help the jazz community. The dollars raised will be used for a special event to sponsor yours truly to travel to Egypt, the cradle of civilization
"Early Dynastic Egypt" for historical purpses.

MY STRATEGY:

One of the key ingredients to be successful in the music and arts community is advertisment and word of mouth.

For each member of the WDCJN who gives $50.00 or more I will design you a state of the art blog with pictures, video links and music for your engagement or venue and eblast out to the network jazz community of over 1,500 fans. Approximately 500 or more visits per day on the main page is great visibility! When promoting your events this it's very helpful. Do the math... This is a one time offer, which can be great when promoting your events and music products. We all know the cost of designing and email blasts. Yes, it can be very, very expensive. Each member who gives $10.00 or more will listed as contributors with a link in email blast of future events
.

PRESERVING THE JAZZ LEGACY

Jazz is an art form which has its origins, spiritual, heritage and cultural roots in Africa, African American communities and the African Diaspora.

As a performing artist this experience of visiting "EGYPT" the cradle of civilization will enable me to strengthen my creative and professional development as a writer to inspire ideas and material for a New CD. "Down By the River East of the Village"

I pledge to continue my work to maintain the aesthetic integrity, heritage, legacy and historical facts germane to the music to further jazz education. The Washington DC Jazz Network is my gift to the world and I hope that each of you that visit will find it educational as well as entertaining. I am very excited about the journey and hope that you will make a contribution to make this historical visit to the cradle of civilization a reality. Give the Gift of Love! I need your support....

JAZZ AVENUES
by Steve Monroe

NETWORKING FOR OUR HERITAGE:

The new Washington Jazz Network is the product of one of our area’s tireless promoters of the heritage, George V. Johnson Jr., whose network aims to help musicians, and the venues where they play and create a new worldwide community devoted to jazz.

Johnson, the vocalese master
who has performed with many of the greats like John Malachi, Eddie Jefferson, Keter Betts, Shirley Horn, James Moody, Lou Donaldson, Akiko Tsuruga, Fukushi Tainaka,
Pharoah Sanders, Buck Hill, Wallace Roney, John Hicks, Harold Mabern, Dr. Art Davis, Billy Higgins, George Coleman, Frank Foster, Barry Harris, Don Sickler, Ronnie Mathews, Frank Wess, Eric Alexander, Arnold Sterling, Donald Harrison, Semus Blake, Lonnie Plaxico, Rufus Reid, Idris Muhammad, Kurt Lightsey, Mulgrew Miller, Michel Petrucciani, Todd Coolman, Rene Rosses, Ray Drummond, Jimmy Cobb, Walter Booker, Clifford Jordan, Victor Lewis, and many others, said he started the site 'THE WASHINGTON DC JAZZ NETWORK on Christmas day 2008, as a place for musicians to meet and network; (Vocalese is the setting of lyrics to established jazz orchestral instrumentals.)

Members include, jazz lovers, musicians, doctors, lawyers, teachers, and many professional people from all over the world are coming to the site; said Johnson, who said the site had about 130 members in less than a month, with a 500 hundred visits to the site every day. I think soon it could be up to a thousand a day, as this network grows and word gets around, he said. Johnson added, I came up with the idea because (NING is a great platform for people to create their own social networks) gives us all the opportunity to use the Internet as a viral marketing tool.

We can share ideas, music, dialogue, forums, news and connect with musicians and other jazz enthusiasts with just one click of a button around the world in a matter of seconds. It puts us all on an equal playing field. United we stand while exploring the world of Jazz~~~JAZZ AVENUES

Imagine listening to a seasoned jazz musician rip into a bebop solo so sizzling and smooth it makes your senses tingle. Close your eyes and play along. Try and picture the sweat bouncing off the performer like the notes that leap through the air. See if you can hear the mesmerizing melodies go up and down, bringing you through joy and sadness, taking your emotions on a sensory experience unlike any other. Now picture that musician and his beloved instrument: His voice. That's the art of vocalese, and that's what native D.C. son George V Johnson Jr. has been doing for over 40 years. Working as a performer, a D.C. Metrobus driver and a New Jersey train conductor at different times throughout his life, Johnson's latest work has taken the form of pedagogy. He has become a teacher and mentor to both aspiring and established vocalists from around the area, and most recently he has lent his years of experience and talent to AU, leading the AU jazz vocal ensemble. `~~By Ben Lozovsky
