47 years ago, the March on Washington took place where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his I Have a Dream speech at the March on Washington. 47 years later, Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network invites you to reclaim the dream. We’ve made progress but our struggle still continues. Please join us and register for the historic Reclaim the Dream Rally and March on Saturday, August 28th in Washington DC at Dunbar High School at 11 am. National Action Network will mobilize progressive leaders, clergy, activists and "Dream Keepers" for a mass rally. There are conservative groups and tea party members that are holding rallies the same day at the Lincoln Memorial and we want to show the world that THE DREAM LIVES ON.

Wow!

Washington DC's Finest !!

Akua Allrich has definitely got that thang!!!

Last weekend I ventured out to the Historic Bohemian Caverns to hear some music and to my surprise I witness a very talented vocalist and composer Akua Aldrich who took the audience by storm. Akua's command performance and tribute to two great entertainers Nina Simone and South Africa's Mariam Makeba was one of the most gratifying and soulful experience I seen in some time. Simone's "Sinner Man", Makeba's "Pata Pata" left everyone wanting more and more. Every note, and nuance was on the money. Every now and then a talent comes a long that makes you feel good and you can't get enough. When she announced the last song of the evening it turned into a medley and audience sing-a-long. The rhythm section featured Janelle Gil on pianist, Kris Funn-bass and John Lampkin-drums, as well as a flutist and two African drummers who filled the air rhythms that made you pat your feet and clap your hands~~~GeoJO Last weekend Hot Ticket! Rising young vocalist and composer AKUA ALLRICH paid Tribute to Nina Simone & Miriam Makeba @ Bohemian Caverns

My writings and compositions are based on many different experiences including, those of the many beautiful people I've encountered over the years and some of my own (sometimes exaggerated, lol!).

I hope that you can enjoy and connect with my posts in your own way, through your own various experiences and comment with your thoughts, impressions, and inspirations.

Peace, love and light!

I’ll be talkin to ya ….. on the stage …. , cause it’s me…

died Saturday in New York. She was 80

Washington Post Staff Writer Sunday, August 15, 2010

Abbey Lincoln, a jazz singer and actress of unshakable integrity who transformed her image from that of a slinky chanteuse to an oracle of hard-won wisdom, died Aug. 14 in New York. She had been in precarious health since having open-heart surgery in 2007, but the precise cause of death could not be learned. She was 80. Read more here...

DENISE KING

"The Nearnest of You"

Philadelphia, PA

”When people ask me about my music and how I got started, I tell them that my singing career really started by accident. Music was never something that I planned to do or something that I picked. It just happened. After all that I've experienced, and all of the wonderful people that I've met, I don't think I would trade this gig for any other in the world.”
One day a shy girl from Philadelphia, PA, was sweeping her front stoop and sweetly singing “Summertime” when a guitarist/writer from Philadelphia International Records walked by and heard her singing. He was so impressed by what he heard that he auditioned her, hired her and the rest is history. That was the beginning of a singing career that would WOW people in Brazil, France, Africa, Japan, Turkey, and other places around the world~~~
