Tell us about yourself
professional jazz musician since 1978, have played with many of the big bands, "ghost" bands, e.g., Harry James, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey. Have also worked for CAMI(Columbia Artists Management Inc) for many years doing "tribute" tours, e. g., Cab Calloway, Our Sinatra, Hoagy Carmichael, The Songs That Won World War II, etc.
Currently lead my own quartet, "Eagle Wing" celebrating the music of the late Jim Pepper. Recently released new CD of the same, entitled "Ticket To Wahkeena". These are real native american songs that Jim fused with jazz/gospel/R&B.
Work as much as I can, although recently it has been tough, partly because of my geographical location...a small town in Eastern Washington State! Last got to play with some "real" cats on the Newport Jazz Festival 50th Anniversary tour with Cedar Walton, Peter Washington, Lewis Nash, Howard Alden, James Carter, Randy Brecker and James Moody!
What a thrill! I want to continue!...so I keep on!
the great Tim Price recently sent me an uplifting email, in which he simply stated, "BARRY...I'M GLAD THERE IS YOU...keep on!" And so we continue on the path...
