Smooth jazzy soulful pop. Even an old chestnut from the Great American Songbook becomes a smoky soulful classic in the hands of this trumpet innovator! Since leaving his twelve year tenure in soul collective, Fertile Ground, Freddie Dunn has become wet in the waters of a successful solo launch. His first recording, Longing for the Moon, with the lead-off single Looking at the Moon serves notice: Grown and Sexy only! A sleek bass riff reminiscent of some of Sade's best segues into a wistfully stated open trumpet melody. He doesn't just solo, but rather paints a picture like a heart drawn in the sand, simple yet complete. The mood get sexier and more reflective with "Monk's Mood" and "Nature Boy" which both invoke Miles Davis with a silky and quiet muted horn. The mood lightens as he is joined on the front line by alto sax man Eugene Chapman on "Fuleh-chan", a jazzy trade between sax and open trumpet. The fire is re-lit on "Toonin' In" an angry battle that takes place in your own head. Packed with new music to take the edge off your day and put the groove back in your night, Longing for the Moon will leave you seeing stars even on a stormy night!
