Pat Metheny turned me on to George Benson in 1972. I loved blues and rock guitar up until then, but was looking for more harmonically involved playing back then. I also had a great music theory teacher James Hejduk in high school who thought jazz would be my direction.
Started music seriously at age 12. The Beatles and Beach Boys were the first big influences. I got into Blues and rock (Jeff Beck, Clapton, BB King, then Coryell and McGlaughlin, etc.) I bought Miles in the Sky when I was 17 after an English friend told me I'd fall for it. After two weeks of listening to what seemed like a lot of noise upon first listening, I started to understand and love it all to this day.
