Friday "JAZZ NIGHTS" Series

In this ministry, we open our sanctuary as a venue for the community of talented jazz musicians and their supporters from around the Washington area. The players are organized by one of DC’s most experienced jazz organizers, Mr. Dick Smith. Every Friday night from 6 to 9 p.m. Jazz Night in Southwest attracts large crowds of people from all over the metropolitan area. A real community of people has converged around Jazz Night. We share fellowship and affirm the fact that this is a powerful communal and spiritual experience -- that God loves Jazz and rejoices with us in our expressions of love and life. Jazz night is catered by the SW Catering Company.

Blue Monday Blues - 6:00 pm (every Monday)

Blue Monday Blues is a project of Southwest Renaissance Development Corporation launched in 2006. It welcomes a great many of the area's finest electric, down-home artists to lead incredible live performances every Monday evening without any exception.

The BLUES is a truly great American art form. With distinct influences from African, Caribbean and Southern origins it has expressed the passions of people very familiar with adversity and hardship. Perhaps this is why it has such a compelling appeal: the very common human experience of transcending these difficulties and reclaiming a new harmony. Blues is anything but sorrowful; it leaves you with a renewed sense of vitality and offers a new way of seeing things.

We hope you will enjoy these experiences and find something inspiring every time you come.

George, thank you and thank GOD for blessing you with insight to create WDCJN!   The Network has been my connection to the greatest Jazz Legends alive today and Emerging Jazz Icons.  Many of whom I've met and collaborated with over the last 3 yrs after our introduction.  Its a Wonderful thing when Creativity collides with History, Experience and Cosmic Energy and that's exactly the vortex you've created with the WDCJN.  Keep letting your light Shine Brother,......... First Wooden Clock by: BENJAMIN BANNEKER

Using as a model a pocket watch he had borrowed from a merchant or traveler, Banneker carved wooden replicas of each piece and used the parts to make a clock that struck hourly. He completed the clock in 1753, at the age of 21. Due to its precision (it struck every hour, on the hour, and continued to do so nearly forty years) the clock brought fame to young Banneker. Thus he began a watch and clock repair business. The clock continued to work until his death. Read more....

Put it this way: Jazz is a good barometer of freedom… In its beginnings, the United States of America spawned certain ideals of freedom and independence through which, eventually, jazz was evolved, and the music is so free that many people say it is the only unhampered, unhindered expression of complete freedom yet produced in this country.~~~Duke Ellington
