First of all I must humbly applaud the effots of the entire staff ,especially Mr Johnson for preserving our great American classical music. I am in the process of reestablishing my credential as a writer and (musician)percussionist in the various elements of jazz and related art forms.I feel one of the most pressing issues we must address is nurturing, promoting, preserving this cultural art form to our young people, particularly in inner city and those classified as disenfranchised and /or socially disadvantaged. To remedy this void, I am in the process of a developing a proposal to integrate the history of the DC arts & entertainment tradition within the curriculum of the public school system. In addition, I would desire to chronicle this history as a standardized publication(books)as well as posting it as web based content. I am particularly concerned with those contributions made by African Americans during the popular "Black Broadway" of the 20s-30s to the music of native sons Duke Ellington,Marvin Gaye,Van McCoy, CalvinJones(UDC), Howard University(I am an alumnus, class of 77) the Howard Theatre as well as our current GO-GO sound into the 21st century. These contributions are too important to the music fabric of DC and the nation to ignore. I welcome your comments and suggestions.Thank you so much and keep up the wonderful labor of love.
